Now we are Eight!

This has been a long time coming - both this post and the subject.  Although being eight years old seems to have arrived in the twinkling of an eye.  I am older, and greyer and whilst maybe not wiser, certainly more knowledgeable than I was.  The shop is bursting at the seams, compared to the relatively empty shelves with which we started.  The gallery, which was just a dream when we opened the shop, goes from strength to strength, though we definitely don't have enough time to do all we would like to with it - there's always next year, though, isn't there...

Well, yes there is.  The length of the initial lease for the shop was 8 years, and that ran out in September.  I am now the proud possessor of lease number 2 (and I shan't tell you now OLD I will be when it runs out, that's too scary).  So we have plenty of time to develop, improve and - you never know - be proud occupants of an award winning street!*

So much has happened over the last 8 years, but it's time to look forward.  We have a tremendous team of staff, led by Tina, my wonderful right hand woman.  Then there is Isla our apprentice who is settling in well and proving invaluable.  We look forward to seeing her grow and develop over the next year.  Lovely Jilly has joined us as extra back up in the run up to Christmas and the team is completed by Olivia and Milly our two Saturday girlies (I asked, they don't mind me calling them that!).

*Did you know? Bath Place has been shortlisted in The Great British High Street and you can vote for us at www.thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk under the category 'Local Centre' - this is VERY exciting as it's a national competition and we are one of just three in contention to win our category.

Ginger Fig is recruiting!

We need a part time member of staff to replace Arusha who is leaving to go travelling, then train to be a teacher.  As we sadly wave her farewell, we’d love to welcome someone new to the team.

The right person will need a mix of skills - an interest in and understanding of social media and website maintenance alongside good customer facing and other retail skills.  Financial rewards will not be enormous, but the varied nature of the work should mean you will never be bored, and there will always be biscuits, tea and coffee for the taking.

Useful information

Hours:   c20 per week.  Actual hours to be discussed, but occasional Saturdays will be required.  This is a permanent position, subject to a satisfactory probation period.

Experience:  Previous retail experience is preferred but not essential

Skills:  Confidence dealing with the public; a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (basic spreadsheets); familiarity with social media (Facebook/Twitter)

Qualities:  You will need to be reliable, flexible and conscientious, with a good eye for detail, taking pride in your work.  As with all work in retail, patience and a good sense of humour are essential!

Ask in the shop for a job description, which we will email to you.  Or drop us an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Then, if it sounds like the job for you, apply in writing with a CV (hard copies only, not by email!) by Monday 9 March 2015.

Christmas 2014

Hope you have all had a very Merry Christmas? This is just to let you know that Ginger Fig will be closed this Saturday 27 December but will reopen as normal on Monday 29 December. Hope to see you then!

Sorry ...

It has all been a little quiet on the website for a while and we would like to apologise for this! We have been very busy recently with Christmas fast approaching but we promise the website will be up to date soon :-)
