With encouragement and inspiration from Russell Coates at Frome Community College, and the loan of a kiln from Phillip Wood, I set up my own pottery workshop in 1996. During seven years of evening classes with Russell I progressed from slab made, coiled and slip cast items to hand thrown stoneware. My pots have developed from the inspirations of simplicity and elegance of oriental art while keeping British traditions in mind. I deliberately embrace the fact that each of my pots is hand made and therefore unique. The decoration of the pots is purely from the interaction between the glazes and metal oxides, and occasionally tool made marks added during turning.
